The Skyrim soundtrack is a firm favourite of many gamers and music lovers alike. Video game soundtracks have to adapt to what the player is doing, and this is something Soule did expertly well here. However, not all the tracks in the Skyrim soundtrack have the same epicness as “Dragonborn”, each piece is designed to play at different points in the game, and so, every song has a mood and tone to fit.įor example, the angelic choral piece “ Dawn” only plays when you are outside during the day time, whereas the anxious and epic “ Tooth and Claw” plays when you are engaged in a battle. Instead of recording live instruments Soule played digital instruments himself using a MIDI keyboard. However, though the choir is real, the orchestral instruments in the soundtrack were all recorded digitally by Soule. Skyrim soundtrack composer, Jeremy Soule, recorded a 30 piece male choir for the games epic main theme “Dragonborn”, and layered it three times to create the effect of a 90 person choir. Large orchestras and choirs are used in order to achieve a sense of epicness, and scale - it is a great example of immersive music, transporting you to a fantasy world. Stylistically it is similar to the soundtracks of many other films, games and TV shows that fall into the fantasy genre. Dragonborn is nothing short of an artistic masterpiece and it fits wonderfully in the atmosphere of Skyrim. The Skyrim soundtrack consists of predominantly orchestral music. You have to give props to the creator as it takes a special title to be able to just make up a language which comes off both elegant and non-cringy. Developers literally got 30 talented individuals to sing an epic chorus in a completely made up language. You can make out the words, but you won’t recognize them from just anywhere. On top of all of this there is a particular detail to be noted. It really perfected the whole medieval church battle vibe. It turns a trip to the grocery store into a quest where someone’s about to die. The harmonies are absolutely perfect and this is a must have song to have in the background of literally any journey. The chants really get you hyped for battle, and the higher notes (which I imagine to be a women singing) never fails to give me goosebumps. If there was one piece that really represented the general theme of the game, it would be Dragonborn. The entire rhythm and atmosphere the track creates is nothing short than epic.
